Every day, educators face classrooms filled with students who have unique learning styles and needs — ranging from ELL/ESL, special needs, reading above or below grade level and more. In addition, educators are also expected to prepare these same students for success in today's competitive global environment while teaching to state standards and core curriculum. It's a lot to juggle. In this session, Margie Johnson, Instructional Technology Specialist for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, and Dee Jae Arnett, Library Media Teacher from Sacramento City USD, will share their tips and strategies for successfully using online resources and instructional tools to differentiate instruction and to integrate 21st century skills development into teaching and learning.

Margie Johnson graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grade Education with an emphasis in Math and Science and a Master of Arts degree in Middle Grade Education with a Gifted Education endorsement. Last year, she completed another Masters of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and has her administrative certification.

She has 11 years experience in education, including teaching in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Currently, she works for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools as an Instructional Technology Specialist where she works at the district level to help teachers embed technology into curriculum and instruction.


Dee Jae ArnettDee Jae Arnett
Library Media Teacher, Sam Brannan Middle School
Sacramento City Unified School District

Dee Jae Arnett has worked in education in a variety of capacities for the past twenty years. A daughter and granddaughter of teachers, she found her way to teaching in Sacramento, California and taught second and fourth grades for a number of years. Dee Jae has mentored new teachers and taught Classroom Management and Discipline courses for the Department of Education at California State University, Sacramento.

Dee Jae moved to the field of school librarianship in 1996. As a middle school Library Media Teacher, she encourages students to become lifelong learners and readers, but spends a great deal of time guiding students through the research process. Dee Jae works with various levels of students using information technology as well as print media.
