Friday’s Ed Tech Roundup: So much for the dog days of summer. It was a busy week for those following the ins-and-outs of the edtech world. We started off watching the beginnings of the
Khan Academy backlash. On Tuesday, the online education venture called
Cousera announced partnerships with S
tanford, University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton. We predict these sort of offerings at the higher-ed level are a harbinger for things to come in the k-12 space. Google’s recent Kansas City study quickly brought us back to earth in regards to the persistent
digital divide problem. The one other major announcement came from the
Obama Administration: a $1 billion program to support up to 10,000 master teachers in Science, Technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects around the country. That’s enough for one week! —Kevin Hogan, Editorial Director
