This great article by reading guru James Burke is a compilation of activities to help students become more connected to what they read. Although geared to elementary teachers, this list would bring interest and engagement to middle school and high school readers as well. Imagine having your students write their own CliffsNotes about a book they are reading. Many of the ideas involve the arts, so it will exercise another part of your students’ brains.
