Question My district has formed a committee to adapt or develop an instrument to assess students’ 21st Century Skills. Our first charge is to review existing assessments, but we aren’t sure where to begin. Can you recommend a starting point?

Answer The Partnership for 21st Century Schools Web site includes a free tool that you will find very helpful. Called Assess 21, this is a repository of current 21st Century Skills assessment tools. You can search the repository by categories including grade level, skill type, assessment format, and assessment method. While you’ll need to contact individual organizations to view the actual assessment, the results of your search can help get you going in a direction that’s right for your district.
