Title Let Your Motto Be Resistance

Site Description
This Smithsonian site, focusing on the inaugural exhibit of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, takes its title from an 1843 speech by abolitionist Henry Highland Garnet. It uses portraits from the National Portrait Gallery, accompanying each with a short biography. The exhibit attempts to portray 150 years of history in which African Americans "resisted, redefined, and accommodated" an Aemrica that rarely accepted them.
