Implications of a flat world for schools

This morning at 8:15 am central time in the United States I'll be sharing the keynote address at the TechForum Southwest conference titled, "So The World is Flat. Now What?" The action steps we need to take in our schools not only at a 30,000 foot or "big picture" level, but also at the classroom level are CRITICAL to explore. I enjoy being challenged to think deeply and differently about our changing information landscape, but I also sense that many people are looking for practical ideas: action steps that can be taken to advance an agenda of engaged, relevant education leveraging the power of digital tools. We've got to change many of the things we're continuing to do in schools that were appropriate for 19th century classrooms, but are inadequate for the needs of learners as well as our workforce in the 21st century. Those specific "actionables" are the main focus of my presentation at TechForum.

If you're not here in Austin in person, you have a few alternatives if you'd still like to join in the learning and the conversation:

Miguel Guhlin will be assisting me with the Ustream web feed, and as this will be an experiment, don't expect Discovery Channel quality! (At least not this first time out the gate!)

Be sure to tune into Twitter tomorrow as well, there's sure to be lots of twits talking at TechForum Southwest 2007! :-)

Nicely done, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and especially your passion.

And the flatness example can be seen in the Edusim project as well http://edusim3d.com - where 2 classrooms from literally across the globe can connect and collaborate of the same learning exercise !
