What a difference a day makes or does it?

In a few short hours, 24 to be exact, the world as we know it has moved from the year 2007 to the year 2008. New cars are ready to roll off the assembly line, and we are reminded of that through television ads, newspaper and magazine marketing and even digital advertising.

While it takes a few years for a concept car to go from someone's imagination, to paper/digital paper to prototype and finally the plants to the showrooms, we are reminded at every turn, the NEW 2008 CARS are here.

Ask yourself, what have you done to make yourself ready for 2008? Do you have any students ready to roll off the assembly line, the new model for 2008? Or do you have students prepared to work on the old assembly line? Do you have a student with a great imagination thinking up a design for a new product, prototype and finally can you imagine that student fulfilling the design requirements for the product?

We, in education, focus on our students meeting the curriculum standards, making steps as they progress each year either in grades or in reference from Year 8 to Year 9 students. However, we in education, are not just preparing our students to master each step of the curriculum, we are building our future society. What have you done to prepare your students for the future?

You are in the right place! You have been looking for answers to questions you can barely put into words. You do not have to figure this out by yourself. Make collaboration your word for 2008. You are not in your classroom alone anymore, you can reach out and collaborate with the world. You are accomplishing this by reading blogs, now comment and make connections with others, that is the collaboration part, we can figure this out together, we will make changes to our education assembly line.

My New Year's Resolution is to collaborate with as many commenters to this blog as possible. When you comment, please leave your blog/web address and I will share it with others. This is how you can continue the conversation. Don't be shy, make your resolution to Collaborate in 2008.

My feature blogger this week is Toby Fischer, @ The Future of Education - Where are we going? which is a perfect complement to my blog post. Toby, thanks for helping out. I have enjoyed Toby's comments and blog posts I am sure you will too. Toby is a little mysterious and doesn't readily divulge the school or location, we will work on finding this out! Happy New Year Toby!

Leave a comment and you too can begin to Collaborate in 2008.

I have been using a program called Noteshare for my seventh grade students during a health unit on tobacco. Noteshare is a program that looks like a notebook where all the information for the unit can be submitted as well as students submit their work back to you. I have been attempting to go paperless. I have much to master, but I am getting better. It takes time and patience.
