NECC08 lives on, I'll show you where!
Last year I wrote about NECC07 and steered people to all the great resources one can take advantage of once the official NECC conference is over. NECC08 lives on
This year it has taken me just a bit longer to gather all my NECC08 items and write about it. Mostly, because I went to another great conference called BLC08, Building Learning Communities, an Alan November conference, the week after NECC08 and now I am still trying to gather all my material to share.
However, here is a guide to access all the great sessions and materials and vendors from NECC08. Sorry you missed San Antonio, because it is a city that knows how to welcome visitors!
The first thing you want to do is register and become an ISTE member, the International Society for Technology in Education, you can register to access the site, but you can also register at ISTE which will get you book discounts and discounts to the next NECC09, in Washington, DC. Oh, the other thing a membership for ISTE allows, is for viewing certain videos from the conference.
If ever you wanted one place to look up an exhibitor or vendor, NECC is the place to do this. Check out the virtual vendor section, while I can't promise you will get the goodies we get as we visit the exhibitor floor, I can promise speedy service and great ideas. While some may complain about the exhibit hall, I just want to say, that I think the vendors do well to come to education conferences and introduce us to new technologies and new ideas. However, when you attend the live NECC, make a plan and cruise the vendor hall in sections and certain time allotments, otherwise you will be overwhelmed.
Now, I am sure some of you reading this attended a summer conference and just by virtue of all of us having the same idea about the conference session we wanted to attend, some of us were locked out. However, you can still benefit!!! Get to the online conference brochure, actually it is a huge book, find the presenter, the title and here is where you will find the hidden gems from NECC. Here is one gem, the presenter handouts and research papers! YEAH, all in a searchable database.
Here is an example. I went to the search. Selected Keynote, any day and was presented with this link, with the option to view the keynotes in video or podcast format. How easy is that???
Thanks to the Apple Learning Interchange for hosting the NECC 2008 Podcasts. http://edcommunity.apple.com/ali/collection.php?collection=2956 Here I was able to listen to Dean Shareski and David Jakes and their One Hour Powerpoint presentation from NECC. Then if I clicked on the link to the page where Jakes and Shareski explain their presentation I find hyperlinks to Blog entries about their topic, the podcast channel, jakes' email, and the URL where you can find the handouts, how sweet is that??
Are you exhausted yet? Well, now you can sit back and watch the video's that NECC08 was able to capture. You won't want to miss out on the webstreamed (video) sessions. For this you will go to this page, http://www.kzowebcasting.com/necc/, and just login-no registration. You will then be brought to the streaming page where you can leave notes, but the sweetest thing would be to get your network-your personal network of friends, all go to the stream together and view while backchannel chatting at the same time! It will seem like it is live! This is my favorite, Marzano and Web 2.0: Ed Tech That Works, with Stephanie Sandifer it will seem live. I promise. Twitter both ssandifer
and cheryloakes50 to let us know what you think!
Then to get the final flavor of San Antonio, check out this flickr feed of open-source photos. There are 3,349 great images of San Antonio and the conference. Or choose one photographer and just click on their slide show to get a smaller glimpse. For example, NECC08 through the eyes of Julie Lindsaythanks Julie.
Well, I don't know about you, but this is going to keep me busy for the rest of the summer. Enjoy http://center.uoregon.edu/ISTE/NECC2008/, NECC07, and get ready for NECC09.
