Student Privacy Law Goes Into Effect Jan. 1

New student privacy legislation goes into effect in CA starting Jan 1, 2016. The Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA) affects software and content providers in the K-12 market—if they want to sell in California and potentially, nationwide. President Obama proposed similar legislation modeled on SOPIPA last January.

SOPIPA will go a long way toward assuring teachers and parents that the school zone is a privacy zone, where students are safe to learn and explore and teachers are free to explore the many applications ushering in personalized 21st century learning.
