The Global Marathon For Women in Engineering & Technology Opens March 8

The Global Marathon For, By and About Women in Engineering & Technology kicks off Tuesday, March 8 at 11:00 am (ET), with an opening keynote by Meighan Stone, President, Malala Fund, the activist organization founded by Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai. Meighan Stone’s keynote will be a call for women engineers to speak up, take action and serve to improve the world. It will be facilitated by Diane Melley, Vice President, Global Citizenship Initiatives, IBM, and 2016 Global Marathon Chair.

A free, worldwide online forum across six continents, the Global Marathon allows women professionals to meet virtually and share their stories of personal, educational and professional challenges and successes. This year’s theme is Engineers Make A World of Difference.

The daily themes for the three day event include:

· March 8 – Around the World: Women Engineering Humanitarian Solutions

· March 9 – Reach Up! Advancement and Leadership

· March 10 – Reach Back! Activism Through Volunteerism

The 2016 Global Marathon covers an exceptionally wide range of diverse topics and conversations, with an emphasis on humanitarian engineering and a collaborative spirit that reaches across the world and aims to affect social change. The agenda includes perspective from STEM professionals in the LGBTQ community; social and professional activism among millennial women; and building global engineering competencies for middle schoolers.·
