Today's Newsletter: It’s All About Blended

We’ve been talking about blended learning a lot lately. Our March SchoolCIO Summit (now T&L Leadership Summit) focused on this topic, and advisor Carl Hooker wrote a summary of his takeaways here. "Their mantra for the program of ‘Time, place, path, and pace’ helps guide students towards different opportunities for learning success," he wrote of the work being done at the Palo Alto Unified School District. Panelist Chris Budzynski (@chrisbudzynski) talked about how his district lets students have multiple periods a day to learn in a blended setting, and Bryant Wong, CTO of Summit Public Schools, discussed how their work in personalized learning led to a partnership with Facebook that helped launch a free personalized learning platform. We’ll continue this conversation at our upcoming Tech & Learning Live events. In Chicago on May 5, R. J. Gravel of Glenbrook District 225 will moderate a session that explores how to design meaningful blended learning program, as well as how to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. In the opening keynote in Boston on May 12, blended learning guru Michael Hornwill dive into the vision as well as the tactical workflow of personalized learning in a K-12 setting. Two breakout panel discussions will explore this idea further, and Cassandra Charles of Providence Schools will demonstrate the free Summit Learning platform as part of the new demonstration sessions at the conference. As always, we’ll be covering it all on our social media hub. We hope to see you in person or online soon. – Christine Weiser, Executive Editor
