While the perception that educators “get the summers off” is a misnomer, there may be a bit more time to sit back and soak in some big picture reading. Here are a few bookmarks that I think you’ll enjoy. The Economist takes us back to Aristotle to promote the use of technology in education: "Such innovation is welcome. But making the best of edtech means getting several things right. First, ‘personalised learning’ must follow the evidence on how children learn. It must not be an excuse to revive pseudoscientific ideas such as ‘learning styles.’ Forbes put together a good executive summary of the dominant trends in edtech right now including consice descriptions of AR/VR, personalized learning, and gamification. And then there is this New York Times piece, which has a rather jaundiced view on coding in schools: "Code.org’s multilevel influence machine also raises the question of whether Silicon Valley is swaying public schools to serve its own interests — in this case, its need for software engineers — with little scrutiny."
