The 2003 Ed Tech Leader Of The Year
Announced by Technology & Learning Magazine
SAN FRANCISCO, December 8, 2003 Technology & Learning magazine today named one National Winner and three runners up of its 2003 Ed Tech Leader of the Year contest. Each will be profiled in a feature article in the magazine's December Awards Issue.
"Our Ed Tech Leader of the Year honorees have all had a profound impact on the quality of teaching and learning in their respective communities," said Amy Poftak, Executive Editor of Technology & Learning. "They're great examples of what can be done when you pair technology with a visionary educator."
This year's National Winner is:
- Stephanie Moore, a director of instructional technology who transformed her school from a place where staff development was little more than a handout of computer basics, and technology integration was almost nonexistent, to a tech-forward environment that empowers teachers and students to step out of their comfort zone. Among her many accomplishments, Moore developed a 12-week after-school training boot camp, initiated a wireless Tablet PC computing program, and formed a cross-cultural Web partnership with a Taiwanese school. (Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School, St. Louis, Mo.)
Moore was chosen from a group of outstanding finalists. They are:
- Doug Green, a teacher whose hands-on journalism program trains high school students to write and produce the nation's only K-12 broadcast aired live on the Internet every day. (Carlsbad Unified School District, Carlsbad, Calif.)
- Elizabeth Ross Hubbell, a pioneering elementary teacher who has successfully merged the philosophies of Montessori education and those of the Information Age. (Montessori School of Denver, Denver, Colo.)
- Beverly Knox-Pipes, an assistant superintendent responsible for bringing distance learning opportunities to 22 school districts via a cutting-edge interactive network. (Genesee Intermediate School District, Flint, Mich.)
Technology & Learning's Ed Tech Leader of the Year Program (www.techlearning.com/content/contest/etloy) annually recognizes teachers, technology specialists, and administrators who demonstrate leadership, vision, and creativity in implementing technology in schools and districts. This year's National Winner will receive a Palm Zire 71 handheld computer from PalmOne and Mobile Mentor Classroom Software Essentials from Handmark.
