Developing an Evaluation Plan
Evaluation is the weakest part of our technology plan. Since we're rewriting our plan, what can we do to strengthen the evaluation component?
Writing an evaluation plan requires hard work, but it is much easier when you remember Stephen Covey's admonition to "Begin with the end in mind." Your technology plan's evaluation and monitoring piece needs to be developed while you are writing your plan. For example:
- Clearly articulate the outcomes you expect as a result of implementing the plan;
- Write goals and objectives that support these outcomes;
- Develop indicators of success for your goals and objectives;
- Identify sources of data that will provide information about your progress;
- Create benchmarks and a realistic timeline that serve as both a guide for implementation and a tool for monitoring your progress.
Identify the people responsible for monitoring implementation of the plan, and provide tools for recording and reporting progress. By formalizing the process, you'll be more likely to get the information you need.
