Macintosh / Windows file compatibility

Can students and teachers using Macintosh computers on a school network exchange files seamlessly with Windows users?

The answer to this question is a qualified yes. Microsoft Office for Macintosh is fully compatible with Windows versions of Office; it includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Office for Mac does not include Access, but this is usually not an issue for most users. The main place where file sharers run into some compatibility issues is if non-standard fonts are used. When a file using unusual fonts is viewed or printed on another computer it will substitute a font. Sometimes this alters formatting and appearance. This can happen when Windows users exchange files too. Generally this is not a problem when users stick to more or less standard fonts.
