How to Reach Proficiency Levels

Tip:
Have you presented workshops where teachers have reported their skills a little higher than they really are? Maybe a lot higher? When you were all done, did you notice that one or two of the participants wrote poor evaluations? You went too fast or too slow. So what would you do different?

• Do a needs assessment first to determine what teachers know and want to learn.
• Create easy-to-read tutorials so teachers can follow along or go at their own speed.
• Ask teachers who have more skills to sit next to a teacher with lower skills so they can help each other.
• Develop activities where teachers create and walk away with projects.
• Offer follow-up support for teachers who need a little more coaching.
• Ask teachers to reflect on and share what they have learned with others.
