PDQ (Professional Development QuickTips)
Individual Learning Plans
Category:
Teachers Learning Goals
Tip:
Without a plan, teachers may take a class here or there that may or may not meet their professional development goals. Since teachers also need to increase their technology use and integration skills, they may need help in identifying what they know, what they will need to know, and the strategies they will need to meet their goals. As a professional developer, you can help teachers develop their learning plans and strategies to meet their goals by:
- Reviewing school, district, and student needs.
- Reflecting on any school, district, and state educational initiatives.
- Having teachers write and share how they personally use technology and their learning and teaching styles.
- Asking teachers to share specific curriculum projects where they use technology with students. If they don't use technology, ask them to share curriculum projects where they could use technology if they knew how.
- Focusing on improving student learning as teachers develop their individual goals based on student needs.
- Compiling a list of goals from all the teachers.
- Identifying opportunities that can be offered on-site, online, and off site that address the goals of all the teachers.
- Identifying opportunities that can be offered on-site, online, and off site that address the goals of all the teachers.
