PDQ (Professional Development QuickTips)

Focus on Curriculum not Technology

Category: Curriculum Integration

Tip:
Teachers will transfer technology skills to their classrooms if they are taught in context with their curriculum.

  • Create workshops that provide time to learn the technology, discuss its uses in the curriculum, and provide time for teachers to create lessons that incorporate the technology.
  • Analyze test data and identify skill gaps and specific grade levels. Discuss technology usage to help close the skill gap.
  • Team with teachers to create a lesson plan that incorporates technology and co-present the lesson. (Lesson may take several minutes or several days depending upon the depth and breadth of the project)
