PDQ (Professional Development QuickTips)
Classroom Tools
Category:
Curriculum Integration
Tip:
It is difficult to avoid teaching technology itself even when we all know that the ultimate goal is to improve teaching and learning through technology-enhanced lesson plans. But here are ways to focus technology tools as teaching tools.
- Teach technology at the teachers' level, not as a business tool: Eg. how a word processor works for writing, most common functions for teachers, etc.
- Show examples of how the tool can be used in a classroom using sample integrated lessons.
- Brainstorm how the technology can be used in their curriculum.
- For long sessions, get more detailed and use a more standards-based approach to creating these integrated projects/units
From the discussions and examples, teachers leave each staff development session with actual projects they can use in their classroom immediately assuming they have access to the technology.
