- Bell South's Education Gateway is organized for students, teachers, and parents and contains links to many education locations, including Teacher 2 Teacher, which offers information about professional growth, technology planning guides, collaborative projects with other schools, and more.

There are many commercial tools available to build online courses and online learning environments. Here are some that are free!
- Blackboard.com
Blackboard enables instructors to host online courses that include learning materials, class discussions, and tests.
- Bravenet Tools are available at this site for creating homegrown Web sites including forums, chat areas, e-mail and guest books.
- eCollege.com eCollege allows you to create a secure and private Web environment to supplement any traditional course. You can post syllabi, grades, and more.
- eGroups Although not designed for course delivery, this site can serve as a gathering place on the Internet for any group to send and receive e-mail, schedule meetings, share files, or have private group chats.
- Nicenet.com: Internet Classroom Assistant This nonprofit organization provides tools to create your own online class.
- TAPPED IN Use this multiuser virtual environment to set up your own office space and interact with objects and people in order to develop unique learning experiences.
- My Visto Create your own virtual workgroups to share files, schedules, and messages. With the same tools, you can share holiday wish lists, photos, and recipes with family or social groups.

The "e-learning" market is booming right now, and everywhere you look there's a new commercial site offering training on topics ranging from stock trading basics to how to build a Web site. Through introductory and advanced classes, these sites can help you get up to speed with technology skills on your own time.
- Digital Think Offers 120 courses, including Power Searching on the Internet, Word 2000, and HTML. Continuing education units available through the University of Phoenix.
- Hungry Minds Serves as a gateway to an array of online courses and resources made possible through partnerships with over 30 companies and universities.
- Learn2University Provides 200 interactive, self-paced courses on desktop training, Internet training, Microsoft, programming, finance, and soft skills.
- SmartPlanet.com Billed as a personal and professional growth site, SmartPlanet has general technology courses as well as quirkier offerings covering cooking, health, money, and more.
- Teach.com Web-delivered training focused on PC skills, including the Microsoft Office products, and business applications.
- Just-in-Time Learning Communities
Several sites cater to an ad hoc approach to professional development. They provide the venue--a Web-based discussion environment--and rely on the user community to share peer-to-peer advice and expertise.
- Apple Learning Interchange
ALI Forums enable K-12 educators to communicate with peers in asynchronous discussion forums including Tech Talk, Elementary World, The Math Room, Teacher Education, and QuickTime TV for Learning. ALI also provides arenas for K-12 and higher education faculty to collaborate on issues surrounding a current event.
- CESAME: Supporting Math and Science Teachers
In collaboration with the Northeast and Islands Regional Educational Laboratory at Brown, and Swarthmore's Math Forum, the Center for the Enhancement of Science and Mathematics Education Web site supports investigations in numbers, data, and space curriculum. The site offers level-specific, facilitated discussion areas where teachers are encouraged to share ideas, experiences, questions, dilemmas, and successes.
- Disney Learning Partnership
In addition to its monthly online workshops, Disney Learning Partnership offers message boards and chat rooms where teachers can informally meet and converse with one another, or they can participate in scheduled monthly talks with education experts.
- The Knowledge Loom: Focus on Best Practices
The Knowledge Loom, developed by the LAB at Brown for the Department of Education, presents principles of best practices and highlights these practices in real schools, districts, and organizations. Now online in prototype, the site will eventually feature interactive assessment tools and training modules for constructing local professional development.
- After School Online
Real-time chats are held in the After School Online room in TAPPED IN, a growing community of over 5,000 K-16 teachers, staff, and researchers engaged in professional development programs and informal collaborative activities. Schedule of events.

Among other resources, the Teachers. net Mentor Support Center currently boasts 45 chatboards that bring together educators worldwide in a peer support environment. There are asynchronous discussions as well as scheduled live chats on topics such as assessment or reading recovery. The site has hosted many celebrated experts including children's music legend Hap Palmer, author Beverly Tatum, and school psychologist Beth Bruno.

- Apple Staff Development Online ASDO provides fee-based, self-paced courses designed to help educators integrate technology into teaching and learning. Most use a project approach to gain software-specific productivity. Each course consists of an interactive online tutorial, a hands-on project, and a forum for discussion with fellow students and with the course mentor (see Just In Time Learning Communities).
- AT&T Learning Network Virtual Academy In collaboration with academic and training institutions, the Virtual Academy provides a gateway to a wide selection of Web-based courses, from free workshops for updating skills, to fee-based courses for college credit.
- Classroom Connect's Connected University Classroom Connect offers self-paced technology training and premium courses that feature national consultants. Courses include Teaching Multiple Intelligences Through Technology and My First Web Page. A 30-day trial membership is available.
- Disney Learning Partnership Disney offers a series of nine free month-long workshops that bring together teachers and experts to discuss such topics as Teaching to National Standards, Constructivism as a Paradigm for Teaching and Learning, and Inquiry-based Learning.
- Leadership and the New Technologies Workshops These EDC-sponsored courses include readings, discussions, small projects, and the use of online resources. First-time workshops are free of charge.
- OnlineLearning.Net Over 40 online courses are available for educators through UCLA Extension and the University of San Diego Division of Continuing Education. Topics include: Cross Cultural, Language, and Academic Development; Online Teaching; and Instructional Technology.
- T.H.E. Institute A division of T.H.E. Journal, the institute provides fee-based courses focused on technology integration, from Designing Your School Web Site to Using the Web to Teach Middle School Mathematics.
- Training Cafe Sponsored by Macromedia and WinStar for Education, this site provides a collection of technology-focused how-to units for educators.
- Turner Learning Turner offers a workshop that prepares teachers to use television news programming in the classroom; graduate credit is available through Maryland University College.
- WNetSchools The Internet in Action: Web in the Classroom course is offered three times per school year. Visit the Web site for registration for e-mail alerts.
