Arel Spotlight combines interactive television, multimedia content, and voice and data interactivity in a Web-based platform that creates a virtual classroom at the desktop. Using a browser-based learning environment, Spotlight offers full integration of high-resolution graphics, full-duplex audio, and data interactivity on standard PCs. Classroom features include application sharing, voice conversations, real-time chat and messaging, whiteboards, and interactive communication that lets users "raise their hands" or send anonymous signals to instructors. CUseeMe Pro, a video collaboration software enabling real-time interaction over the Internet or intranet, offers full-color video, audio, multiple-window display, application sharing, and whiteboard features. Using CUseeMe Pro software, a camera, and a connection to the network via a modem or LAN, users can connect to other video desktops that use Microsoft NetMeeting, Intel Proshare Video System, Intel TeamStation, and PictureTel LiveLan. Polycom offers a range of solutions to meet videoconferencing needs, from smaller models to large custom integrations. Medium- to large-room videoconferencing models include the ViewStation H.323 and ViewStation MP. ViewStation MP offers full-motion images at up to 30 frames per second, digital audio with noise suppression and echo cancellation, and a Web-based presentation system. Additional features include voice-activated switching, address book dialing, simple interface, and an embedded Web server that handles diagnostics and software upgrades over the Internet. VTEL offers two primary videoconferencing packages for large and small classrooms. The Small package, which supports up to 16 students, features a single monitor solution with picture-in-picture, and comes with a 44-inch cabinet for equipment and one Sony camera. The Large Classroom package, designed for up to 32 students, includes a dual monitor and is integrated with the Basic Galaxy Carted System Platform. Collaboration and Course Building
The Blackboard.com site offers three channels for online learning: Blackboard CourseSites for creating and taking courses on the Web (for free); a Resources collection for customizing educational content; and a Communities section for interacting and collaborating with peers and teachers. For enterprise users, there's Blackboard 5, a software platform that supports course management, an institution-wide portal, online campus communities, and integration with multiple administrative systems.

Centrinity's FirstClass Collaborative Classroom Gold communication and collaboration software features messaging, Web publishing, conferencing, and calendar tools. Teachers can publish curriculum materials and moderate discussions; students can chat online and access news groups. In addition, FirstClass CC Gold is compatible with Palm connected organizers. Centrinity also offers Zebu, a server-based virtual collaborative environment for individual and group project work that integrates text, graphics, video, and sound, as well as links, discussion areas, and HTML.

Lotus offers the LearningSpace 4 learning management and delivery system, which allows educators to integrate course content with different delivery options, including self-directed, asynchronous, or real-time collaboration. The Core Module supports delivery, tracking, and management of online, self-paced learning. In addition to supporting all of the Core Module's functions, the Collaboration Module enables real-time virtual classrooms that include audio and video, shared whiteboards, shared applications, electronic hand raising, participant lists, and instant messaging.

The Encarta Class Server from Microsoft is a curriculum management platform for grades 6-12 that includes five main teaching areas: curriculum standards, lesson plans, content, assignment, and assessment. Educators can use standards-aligned materials from textbook and education content publishers to develop and customize assignments and assessments. Students can view, complete, and hand in homework electronically using their own secure Web page; and parents may access student work from any Internet or intranet connection.
