The following terms will help you become digital video-wise.
CD-R, DVD-R: CD and DVD technology that enables you to record a disk one time
CD-RW, DVD-RW: CD and DVD technology that lets you record, erase, and re-record data to a single disk again and again
Desktop video: Digital video processed on a desktop computer
Digicam: Another term for digital video camera, also known as DV camcorder
FireWire: High-speed data transfer interface for your computer
Linear editing: Editing or transferring video in the sequence in which it was shot
MPEG (Motion Pictures Expert Group): A format for compressing digital video
Nonlinear editing: The ability to move forward and backward when editing without being constrained by the sequence of the original video
Streaming video: Digital video broadcast live and unedited over the Internet, or video that can be played on a Web site
