Editor's Desk: Our Holiday Gift Guide

By Susan McLester, Editor in Chief

Happy holidays to all from the staff of Technology & Learning. In this special issue, newly christened "The Awards Issue," we are pleased to continue our magazine's long tradition of recognizing and celebrating excellence in education technology. The Ed Tech Leaders of the Year program (formerly our Teacher of the Year program) provides us-for the 14th year-with a forum for honoring inspirational educators at all levels of the district. And our annual Awards of Excellence, mark 19 years of showcasing high-quality, innovative products that support teaching and learning in our increasingly digital world. We've taken a slightly different tack in the student area this issue, inviting kids to share their voices and visions via original photos with explanations of how they represent "Portraits of Learning."

During this season, we're all flooded with Holiday Gift Guides from what seems hundreds of sources. In this 2001 December, with so much of our world in flux and uncertainty always at hand, it is reassuring to reflect that the value of a child, and of those who guide that child, remains a constant. Please consider this special issue our own version of the Holiday Gift Guide. And for the gift of our children's futures, we thank you all.
