Apply For an Administrator's Grant

In addition to our numerous Grants Directory listings are the opportunities below, which specifically target school leaders.

Every state may submit an application to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for a State Challenge Grant for Leadership Development. Applications must represent a broad, statewide coalition developed to bring access to quality professional development to every superintendent and principal in public and private schools. The focus of the training is on whole-systems improvement and creating a high-performance learning environment through technology integration. Deadline: Ongoing. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Wallace-Readers' Digest Fund offers Ventures in Leadership Grants to encourage recipients to implement innovative ideas in the development of school leadership programs. Funding is for a period of two years. Deadline: November 30. Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds, (212) 251-9700.

The Distinguished School Administrators Award, sponsored by the American Association of School Librarians and Social Issues Resources Series Mandarin, is presented to a school administrator for developing an exemplary school library media program and for making an outstanding and sustained contribution to advancing the role of the school library media center. The MetLife NASSP National Principal of the Year program annually recognizes 104 middle and high school principals who have demonstrated success in the areas of educational leadership, solving complex problems, developing staff and others, and community service. Two finalists from each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity receive a $2,500 grant; two national winners selected from this group receive an additional $7,500. Grant funds are used for school-related projects or programs. Deadline: January 11. NASSP Recognition Programs, recognition@principals.org.
