Desktop Computers
Apple has introduced the eMac computer, which the company says is designed for the education market. It comes with a PowerPC G4 processor, a 17-inch flat CRT display, two FireWire ports, five USB ports, built-in stereo speakers, a 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet port, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and a choice of CD-ROM or a combination DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. Like the original iMac, the eMac has a space-saving all-in-one design. Education prices start at $1,049.

Internet Management
St. Bernard Software has rolled out version 3.2 of iPrism, an Internet access management appliance that protects against data loss, system threats, and abuse of an organization's acceptable use policy. Network administrators can use iPrism to assign filtering profiles to users, customize Internet access rights, generate reports on users' Web surfing habits, and more. $2,195 for the appliance; subscription service cost is based on the number of users.

IRIS offers the IRISPen II pen scanner that allows users to capture text and transfer it into a Windows or Macintosh document. Standard version (reads text and figures): $129. Executive version (reads text, figures, hand-printed numbers, bar codes, and includes text-to-speech capability): $199.

Texas Instruments has introduced the TI Keyboard, a full-sized QWERTY keyboard available for use with the company's TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-89, TI-92 Plus, and Voyage 200 models. Included with the keyboard is NoteFolio software, which allows students to type and save notes into their TI handheld. $39.99.

ELMO has released the HV-8000SX IP-addressable visual presenter, which in addition to projecting images and 3-D objects for face-to-face presentations can transmit images over the Internet. Specifications include 800 x 800 SXGA output, 10X optical zoom, auto focus lens, and remote pan and scroll capability. Pricing not available at press time.
