Today's Newsletter: Carl Hooker's Keys to a Successful Mobile Initiative

The one thing I’m constantly amazed with is the fact that some districts think placing a magical device with an Apple on it will transform learning. As we enter the half-way phase of Year 2 in our initiative, I can tell you that those who think that way are taking a great leap sideways. Without time, collaboration, support, and coaching, the teachers with these new devices in their classrooms will simply carry on with teaching the same way, only now they’ll have a device as a substitute for a notepad or textbook. If we want learners to reach the highest levels of Bloom’s or SAMR’s models in these classrooms, we must realize that placing “access” in the hands of kids is step number one of a 30-step journey. These gifts have tails people! Before you even have a thought of going this route, think to yourself, do we have proper instructional support for this?
