2006 Portraits of Learning

Susan McLester

Kid Views

More than 3,500 creative digital photos entries this year attest to the increasing visual artistry of today's digital natives. Add to that a promise of great prizes (Adobe Photoshop Elements and/or Adobe Digital Kids Club Digital Photography Lab Kit and an Olympus digital camera) and you've got some real innovation on your hands. T&L's editors and art directorcombed through colorful photos of canaries, fish, sunsets, storms, best friends, felines, soccer , and alone home rising from the rubble of Katrina. We saw lines and textures in power poles and swirling waters and drama in ghostly silhouettes, shadowy portraits, and tsunamis of fire. Also well represented were the traditional still lives of the schoolhouse: jungle gyms, hallway doors, football fields, and the cafeteria lunch. Enjoy the winners.
