Race to the Top Redux
9/5/2012 By:
In case you missed it: The federal government
announced last month that it has finalized the
application for the next round of Race To The
Top. The DOE this year will award 15 to 25
grants to districts, not states, that have at least
2,000 students, 40 percent or more of whom
qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches. Grants
will range from $5 million to $40 million,
depending on the size of the district, according to
a recent AP report. Applications are due October
30, but the 116-page application is difficult, and
more than half the nation’s school districts are
not eligible to apply because their enrollments
are too small. So, is it worth it?
