We call this generation of learners digital citizens. But three years of data gathered from learning.com’s 21st Century Skills Assessments suggests that the softer side of 21st-century skills, like critical thinking and problem solving, are lacking. Some details:

* 73% of students exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports learning, but only 34% can process data and report results.

* 64% can exhibit leadership for digital citizenship, but just 34% can process data and report results and only 38% can plan strategies to guide inquiry.

* 66% can demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning, but just 33% can collect and analyze data to identify solutions and make informed decisions; just 46% are able to process data and report results.
