Clear Creek ISD Launches Personalized Learning Initiative

Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) in Texas will deploy 30,000 Dell Latitude 10 tablets running Microsoft Windows 8 throughout its 43 schools. The tablets will be used by students, teachers and administrators and will be integrated into the district’s curriculum through professional learning services provided by Dell, Microsoft and Intel. CCISD evaluated Dell and Apple devices for their new one-to-one device deployment.

The decision was made with feedback from teachers, administrators and students.

"Every student today feels the polarization of traditional education and the real world,” said Andrew Barrett, Clear Brook High School student. “The average classroom experience often lacks relevancy. This initiative is by far the most influential move yet in bridging the widening gap between academia's demands and a student's life.”

For administrators, the Dell Latitude 10 tablet will help them manage the devices in an existing Windows environment. Teachers can take advantage of professional learning to integrate the technology into their curriculum.

“Having Microsoft Office on these tablets is the perfect blend of something teachers already know with a new opportunity for anytime, anywhere access,” said Kelly Lane, Technology Integration Specialist. “It makes for a natural progression. Now, we can focus on the integration and learning, rather than the workarounds.”

The Microsoft Shape the Future program allowed CCISD to purchase the devices at a discounted rate. As part of its Partners in Learning Program, Microsoft will provide 10 days of professional development training so teachers can learn more about the newest software and Windows 8.
