Digital Educator Certification Launch

Leading Edge Certification (LEC), a national Alliance of nonprofits, universities and educational agencies, today announced that Digital Educator will be the next certification program to be developed. Leading Edge Certification for the Digital Educator is currently being developed under the leadership of Burt Lo, Chair. A pilot program is planned for early 2013, and the final certification program will be available in July 2013.

A focus of LEC’s Digital Educator certification is the effective utilization of technology-rich learning opportunities. Upon completion of the Digital Educator Certification program, participants will have a portfolio of technology-enhanced projects demonstrating learning activities that encourage students to think critically, communicate, collaborate, and create.

Leading Edge Digital Educator Certification curriculum is being developed based on the National Education Technology Plan, Common Core State Standards, and the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). LEC’s Digital Educator will comprise multiple modules, ranging from Digital Literacy and Citizenship to Data Literacy, Learning Environments and Communication and Collaboration.

The Digital Educator Certification will be offered by both Leading Edge Core and Stakeholder Alliance members, and will be a 6-8 week course that is delivered through a combination of face-to-face and online trainings.
