PASCO/NSTA STEM Educator Awards

The PASCO STEM Educator Awards recognize five educators with a prize totaling approximately $4,500, which includes a $1,000 cash award, a $2,000 certificate for PASCO products to further support their STEM program, and up to $1,500 for travel expenses to attend the NSTA national conference, where they will be recognized at the NSTA Awards Banquet.

Together We Do Amazing Things Contest

Lightspeed Systems’ Together We Do Amazing Things contest will allow Lightspeed customers to share how they are using the company’s solutions, have their submissions voted on by their peers, and have the chance to win money to help them do even more amazing things. Schools submit their stories on the Together We Do Amazing Things blog in the form of videos, essays, My Big Campus bundles, infographics, photo collages, and more. First and second place winners will receive $1000 and $500, respectively, and five runner-ups will be awarded $100.

Reading Program Grants

IRA announces three grants to support teachers or researchers implementing either In2Books or ePals and the Common Core State Standards. The IRA Erwin Zolt Curriculum Excellence Award goes to a teacher for the exceptional design and execution of a curriculum unit using these three tools; the IRA Esther Zolt Academic Research Grant goes to a school researcher studying the classroom implementation of these three tools; the IRA Esther Zolt Teacher Research Grant goes to a teacher who plans and completes an action research project with either In2Books or an ePals Project and the Common Core State Standards with exceptional innovation. These awards/grants, sponsored by Nina Zolt and Miles Gilburne, have an annual monetary award of $2,500 each.

Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision

Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision is now accepting entries for 2013. Students research scientific principles and current technologies as the basis for designing inventions that could exist in 20 years. As the program has evolved over the past two decades, it continues to encourage excellence and motivate students in STEM disciplines.

SUPERHERO Video Competition

Samsung Techwin America’s Electronic Imaging Division opened its Fall SUPERHERO Video Competition. The winning student gets $500 and their class receives a SAMCAM 860 document camera. Easy Access and Search for Education Campaign

Beginning in October, the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) will kick off Easy Access and Search for Education (EASE), a month-long campaign that aims to raise awareness about the negative effects of information overload on educators’ and students’ online search experiences. All participants will be entered for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

New York School Wins Top Honors at Intel Schools of Distinction Awards

Ossining High School in Ossining, N.Y. took top honors in the Intel Schools of Distinction Awards, which recognizes K-12 schools that have some of the most successful educational programs in the country.

Other winning schools include George Hall Elementary School (Mobile, Ala.), Legacy Elementary School (Madison, Ala.), Penn Alexander School (Philadelphia), School of Science and Engineering (Dallas) and Technology Access Foundation Academy (Kent, Wash.).

The Intel Foundation and sponsoring companies distributed $560,000 in cash grants and awards to the winning schools. Each winning school at a minimum won an estimated $75,000 in a combination of cash grants from the Intel Foundation and an award package that includes curriculum materials, professional development resources, hardware and software from such sponsors as Adaptive Curriculum, BrainWare Safari, DreamBox Learning, LanSchool, Pearson and SMART, which has been an anchor benefactor of this program since its 2004 inception.

Ossining High School received the Star Innovator Award, which brings an additional $15,000 from the Intel Foundation along with other prizes totaling $100,000. Since 1988, this high school has implemented a project-based science program that fosters involvement through an extensive network of mentoring and community partnerships.
