Jackson School District Adopts New Provider for Remote Access and BYOD

Jackson School District in New Jersey has chosen Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect to provide remote, managed access to Windows-based educational curriculum, applications and desktops from anywhere, using any device.

Jackson School District sought to provide 1000 teachers and students at 10 schools with a fast and easy way to remotely access educational resources. Working with Cloud services provider Boxed Network and Ericom, Jackson implemented PowerTerm WebConnect as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, which kept the District from having to invest in on-premise IT infrastructure.

“We wanted to provide a way for teachers and eventually students to remotely access school files and applications from home and other off-school locations," said Lincoln Mahabir, Jackson’s Supervisor of Technology. "We trialed Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect and found its HTML5 browser-based capabilities to be much easier and faster to use than [other systems].”

Ericom’s HTML5 RDP client runs entirely within HTML5-compatible browsers, i.e., Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE, and on mobile and desktops computing devices, such as iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Windows, Mac and Linux, and Chromebooks – extending the latter’s reach to Windows applications and desktops.

Ericom AccessNow works on Chromebooks, iPads, Android tablets, smartphones, and on Windows / Linux PCs and Macs, and works the same way on all supported device types. Users can access Windows and web-based instructional, e-Learning, collaboration and productivity apps, e.g. Microsoft Word / Excel - from anywhere (school, library, home, lab or field). It enables access to education websites and systems (e.g., ALEKS) and web applications (e.g., MAP TAA) not supported by Chrome (those requiring Java or ActiveX). It also integrates with the Ericom Secure Gateway, which can be used with or instead of a VPN or an SSL VPN.
