Miami-Dade selects wireless provider

T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced today that the Miami-Dade County Public School District has selected T-Mobile as its primary wireless service provider. The district has purchased both BlackBerry® Curve™ 9300 smartphones and BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780 smartphones for use by district administrators and principals. In addition, the school district has purchased Samsung B2710 “ruggedized” phones for use by custodial and field staff.

“With the unprecedented economic strain that school districts are facing across the country, we are proud to be able to provide the Miami-Dade Public School District with a leading nationwide mobile network while reducing the associated costs to the district,” said Gabriel Torres, vice president and general manager, Florida region, T-Mobile USA. “Additionally, by utilizing dedicated Cells on Wheels (COWs) strategically located across the district, we have provided administrators with the ability to stay connected in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.”

As the fourth-largest school district in the United States, the Miami-Dade County Public School District covers 2,000 square miles of both urban and rural cities and comprises 392 schools, 345,000 students and over 40,000 employees.
