Study: Most Skills Developed Outside of School

Today Microsoft Partners in Learning and the Pearson Foundation released a Gallup study which found that developing advanced skills that equip youth for today’s workplace challenges in school is positively correlated with higher work quality later in life.

From its survey of American respondents age 18-35 who are students or employed, 59% percent agree or strongly agree that they developed most of the skills they use in their current job outside of school. And while real worldproblem-solving is the significant driver of higher work quality, among high school graduates, only39% reported developing this skill, often in the last year of school.
