Utah Elementary School Closed Achievement Gap With PD

School Improvement Network today announced the release of a new case study detailing how a large, urban elementary school in Utah closed the achievement gap with minority students and increased reading proficiency among ELL students with help from the Educator Effectiveness System.

The Educator Effectiveness System offers a process to improve teacher practice, and gives educators a set of tools to drive the process. At Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, the system provided educators a way to give differentiated instruction for a diverse student population:

  • 79 percent of students are from minority groups
  • Many students are refugees from over 25 countries
  • 86 percent live in economically disadvantaged circumstances

After using the Educator Effectiveness System, reading proficiency at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School increased year over year from 55 percent to 64 percent, and educator enthusiasm also increased. Click here to see Woodrow Wilson’s gains.
