Here is a list of some Tragedies, and, happily, some Triumphs.

By Ken Royal
If you believe that all other subjects generate out of a central spoke called science, then these Experiment, Project, and Activity Sites are for you. The activities include objectives, illustrations, materials, procedures, and additional links. There are even a few here to help with science fairs. All of these sites have one thing in common, though, and that is safety. Before experimenting, remember safety first.

Better Living Through Botany
By Carol S. Holzberg, PhD
Too often, we take the botanical world for granted, forgetting that plants provide us with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. Plants spice up our meals and oxygenate our air (as a by-product of photosynthesis). In swamps, marshes, and other wetlands, they serve as organic filters drawing out impurities from polluted waters. Without plants, there could be no life. To learn more about the importance of plants, visit the Web sites that Carol suggests.

Extreme Weather
By Susan Brooks-Young
Throughout history people have attempted to explain, forecast, and control our weather. Ancient people believed that gods or spirits controlled the weather. Although in modern times we better understand what causes certain weather conditions, we still have virtually no control over them and aren't even terribly good at predictions. Perhaps this is why people continue to be fascinated with weather. Movies such as The Perfect Storm, the Weather Channel with 24/7 weather coverage, groups of people who chase tornadoes to watch and film them are all indicators of how interested we are, particularly in extreme weather conditions. This Web tour takes you and your students into the world of extreme weather. Don't forget your umbrella!

Health and Safety
By Susan Silverman
Teaching students about health and safety can be fun and easy with the plethora of health- and safety- related sites on the World Wide Web. Susan provides the following sites that support learning standards in a variety of subject areas. Whether you are a health education or classroom teacher, you will find these Web sites helpful.

Web-Based Science Networks

Alec recommends Web-based science networks that provide collaborative projects for students to participate in. These include weather and animal data collection and comparison projects, scientific monitoring, and research expeditions.

Ken's Konnections #9 - Earth Science
By Ken Royal
The following Konnections will help to enhance earth science, geography, and weather studies. It's amazing how much recent data is available in this area through the Internet. Sites like "Storm Track" will impress you. Collecting some of this data can be down right dangerous, but you and your students can do it in the safety of your classroom, through the computer screen. Learn more about our unstable earth with this Konnections.

Ken's Konnection #6 - Animals, Insects, ZooCams, and Dinosaurs
By Ken Royal
Animal study plays an important part in most science classrooms, for that matter in any classroom. The following Konnections have links to everything from live zoo cameras to crocodiles and sharks. Also included are Insects and dinosaur sites. If you're looking for animal links, these Konnections will narrow down your search. Rainforests
By Roger Gottlieb
Rainforests are special. These warm, wet places cover about 15% of the earth's surface and need at least 80 inches of rain annually. Tropical rainforests grow mainly between the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere. But civilization, with its deforestation and climatic changes, is rapidly pushing the Rainforest onto the endangered list. Students enjoy learning about rainforests and there are lots of web sites on the topic. Roger shares many of his favorites for both teachers and students.

Spiders on the Web
By Roger Gottlieb
If any living thing could be the Internet's mascot, it would probably be the mighty arachnid, commonly known as spider. These eight-legged creatures spin a web to ensnare bugs and other tasty objects. The Internet... well, the metaphor is better left unsaid. Anyway, for those of you who want information about spiders and want it on the Web, Roger provides the following sites.
