Preparing for Technology Integration: Sharon Ogden

Continuing the series of interviews with technology directors and integration specialists, who give their "state of the union," and their views on education technology in the future.

Sharon Ogden, District Technology Training Coordinator at Bryan Independent School Districtogden

“We now have all of this wonderful stuff and more teachers tend to be technology literate. So, now we ask: ‘How can we integrate this great tool with our students who we know are digital natives and need this stuff? This is how they learn, what they’re interested in. It’s what we need to be doing all of the time. Currently, we have a district staff development plan where teachers move through a continuum of technology skills ranging from how do you this all the way to 21st century classrooms and project based learning. We’ve used our online resource through part of our training process so teachers could get that training just in time, whenever they felt like it—whether they’re at home, school or wherever. It’s an integral part of what we offer and it has helped us grow.”

“Technology and our use of online training will continue to grow in importance. Teachers are the primary users; in the next ten years, this will become an integral part of our online learning for students, too. That’s something that everybody is moving toward—online learning for everybody, not just teachers. Our resource will become a really big part of what we offer to students. That’s where I see things are going. It’s not going to do anything but just get bigger and better. And it’s going to be fun!”
