Secure Content Locker protects sensitive content in a corporate container and secures distribution and mobile access so that teachers can access the latest information across all mobile devices. Judges said that “classrooms would benefit from this product,” particularly by enabling teachers to allow or deny applications on classroom devices. Judges also found the dashboard easy to navigate and use.

Atomic Learning

Atomic Learning’s Online Mobile Learning PD solution offers online professional development resources and planning tools for using mobile devices in the classroom. One judge liked the content as well as the different classroom management strategies available. Another judge said that school districts with limited staff to deliver professional development and support mobile learning will find these tools valuable.

MyLearning Plan Inc.

MyLearningPlan ELEVATE is an online, video-based evaluator training and certification system. Judges across the board found it easy to navigate and use the system. One judge stated that the ability to view video, take notes, align with rubrics, and collaborate between administrators makes it a unique tool.


With Bonjour Gateway, administrators can manage and control Apple service availability (such as AirPrint, AirPlay, and file sharing) across an entire enterprise network, either within their existing HiveOS network operating system or by attaching a single Aerohive device to the network. Judges called it a “must” for schools with iOS and Apple TV devices. Across the board, they found it easy to use and set up.

Discovery Education

The Social Studies Techbook connects social studies to historical resources and encourages students to develop evidence-supported arguments. Judges liked the high quality of the resources, and they found it very interactive for teachers and students alike. One judge said it was easy to navigate and compile resources.

Teaching Channel

Teaching Channel Teams, or Tch Teams, is a collaboration platform for schools and school districts that offers a library of videos on instructional strategies. Judges found it easy to use, and one pointed out that it mirrors other video sharing and viewing sites. Another judge cited the guiding questions, school and teacher information, and supporting materials as key features that made this product a winner.


The Teachscape Effectiveness Platform offers a single login for the company’s leading resources—Focus, Reflect, Learn, and Advance. One judge said the platform “addresses teacher evaluations and growth” from a data management aspect and provides a useful training tool. Another judge raved over the Observer Training Module in Focus, stating, “Within minutes, I was successfully evaluating a lesson based on the observable framework for teaching.”

Horizon DataSys Corporation

The Reboot Restore Rx freeware makes it easy to maintain PCs school-wide because the computers are automatically restored to the desired baseline settings. Judges found it a great solution for schools with limited IT staff since teachers could easily run the software themselves. One judge said it would be a “creative, simple solution to a problem for many school computer labs.”


DynEd Kids is a course that uses insights from neuroscience to build a strong language base for students, in both conversational and academic English. Judges appreciated that the software uses brain principles to build knowledge, and they said it would “fit the bill for schools with a keen focus and attitude of persistence.” They said the “methodologies are very sound” and found it easy to install, run, and use.


iLit offers online literacy lessons that are split into six segments: Time to Read, Vocabulary, Read Aloud Think Aloud, Classroom Conversation, Whole Group Instruction, and Work Time. Judges found it an excellent addition to the literacy instruction classroom, citing it as “easy to use” and “engaging.” One judge loved the “product concept, design, and interface,” and thought the lesson design was particularly innovative.

Texthelp Inc.

The iReadWrite iPad App for struggling readers and writers includes helpful features like text-to- speech, word prediction, and phonetic spell checker. One judge said that students of all ages would find it easy to use. Judges liked the text-to-speech function, with one judge adding that it could serve as a useful writing center for younger students.

Software MacKiev

 Kid Pix 3D is a drawing, painting, and presentation program that emphasizes communication and creativity skills through the use of video narration, easy path animation, and a flipbook creation tool. Judges found it highly engaging and said there was “little doubt” students would love the product. One judge added that the feedback functionality would help keep students’ attention.


Zeos prepares students for high-stakes assessments through a practice environment. Judges enjoyed the Teacher portal, which allows teachers to check in on their students. One judge pointed out that the external links to videos, such as those provided by Khan Academy, “encouraged students to expand on their learning within and outside of Zeos.”

LG Electronics

The LG23CAV42K 23” zero-client monitor uses PCoIP technology with VMware, designed to support large classrooms or offices, and features USB authorization for enhanced security. Judges agreed that it would be a great solution for schools using VMware. One judge added that the “high quality of virtualization” and ease of set-up made this a standout solution.

Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc.

The WD390U-EST Extreme Short Throw Projector has a thin client built in that can access a LAN or the Internet when content is stored in the cloud. When a presenter logs in, the projector becomes an active display and the presentation is controlled with a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse. Judges thought the variety of features and ease of use distinguished it from similar products. One judge in particular loved the iPad app which allows students to project presentations from their devices.

iCreate to Educate

With the MyCreate app and the built-in camera on mobile devices, students capture a series of photos and create a stop-motion animation, which can be uploaded and shared on social networks. The crisp pictures and smooth video quality won praises from our panel of judges. One judge viewed it as a helpful tool for kids to share their ideas through digital storytelling.

NEC Display Solutions

The UM330Xi-WK1 interactive projector bundle includes a 3300-lumen, UM330X, ultra-short throw projector, a NP02Wi interactive eBeam module and stylus pen, and a NP04WK1 wall mount kit for an effective classroom solution. Judges liked that it could be used with existing whiteboards and found it easy to use. One judge added that the pen was a “nice touch” for such a compact projector.


Through its online platform, PresenceLearning delivers online occupational therapy using a combination of a licensed therapist via Web-based videoconferencing and a paraprofessional who is available for on-site learning. A judge pointed out that this solution “fills a huge need for schools” by extending each of the experts into classrooms. The judges rated it as a cost-effective way to open up resources to schools.


Each teachWELD Welding Simulator unit includes a welding station, GMAW gun, helmet, gloves, three coupon styles, and welding simulation software to teach students welding techniques in a safe environment where they can learn from their mistakes. Judges thought it was great for vocational education, especially for a “hands-on class” in middle or high school. They rated it as an innovative way to teach a traditional subject and engage students.

Super Duper Publications

With the Super Duper StoryMaker app, students can create picture and photo stories, as well as make photo albums, special occasion cards, and more, while practicing skills like following directions and interacting with others. Judges loved that they could use personal photos to tell a story, and they thought students would enjoy the multitude of features. One judge added that ELL students could benefit from the labeled pictures.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The Americans is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s new American history curriculum that supports the CCSS with document-based instruction, streaming video, and interactive features. Judges rated it as a “comprehensive digital textbook” that could “easily replace less-used and more traditional textbooks.” The embedded videos, graphics, tables, charts, and connected vocabulary earned high reviews.

Texas Instruments

The TI-Nspire App for iPad delivers the functionality of its graphing calculators in an all-in-one app that provides comprehensive computational and analytic tools. Judges said it would be great for both high school and college, and they found it engaging to use. An added bonus, one judge noted, was the cost of the app compared to purchasing a graphing calculator.

Acer Inc.

The Acer C710-2847 Chromebook is an affordable yet powerful machine with a 320GB hard drive, a full selection of ports, and a keyboard that blends traditional and Chrome layouts. Judges praised the “wired network and external monitor ability.” They also preferred the additional keyboard capabilities to other Chromebooks.

Acer Inc.

Acer’s Iconia W700 offers a hybrid desktop/tablet or modular small PC solution. It can be used alone as a normal Windows 8 tablet, or it can be connected to its docking station and Bluetooth keyboard as a touchscreen PC. Judges raved over the “high-quality sound” and they liked the screen rotation lock feature. One judge added that the keyboard connection was “flawless” and found the device sturdy enough for classroom use.


The Crestron HD High-Definition Capture Recorder offers a cost-effective solution for capturing lectures, presentations, and training sessions in 1080p definition, used on its own or as part of a CaptureLiveHD system. One judge suggested that it could be used to set up high-quality online courses in a quick and well-designed way. Another judge raved over the integrated lecture recording system.


The Mimio Projector is built around a 1280x800 DLP chip, offers high brightness of 2800 lumens, and can be integrated with Mimio’s IR camera. Judges raved over the “great picture quality” and liked the ability to use two pens simultaneously for real-time collaboration. They also appreciated the multiple input/output options, such as HDMI, VGA, and S Video.

Luidia Inc.

The eBeam Edge Wireless is now available with an Edge Battery Pack that provides up to a week’s worth of typical use and can transform any surface into an interactive learning space, no matter where the computer is placed. Judges found it easy to navigate through the on-screen wheel interface. They appreciated that it was small, easy to set up, and wireless, making it a portable solution for classrooms.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet is powered by a 2.3Ghz quad-core processor with 3GB memory, features high-speed LTE connectivity, and includes an 8-megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash, and enhanced battery life. Judges found it easy to navigate and reported that it responded very quickly to touch. They thought the included stylus was a nice touch, and they liked that the speakers are located in the front for crisp sound while holding the device.

Motorola Solutions

The AP 6562 Outdoor Dual Radio 802.11 a/b/g/n MESH Wireless Access Point supports bandwidth-heavy wireless applications and a large number of wireless devices, even when used outdoors. Judges said it would be great for schools with outdoor classrooms or peripheral buildings. Though it’s designed for business, the judges found it excellent for school applications.


An enhanced version of AceReader Pro, AceReader Elite offers over 800 tests, drills, and games to assess and improve students’ reading skills. Judges have recommended it to schools before, and they say that the new features are beneficial. One judge pointed out that using “technology to improve fluency” in a very comprehensive product makes AceReader Elite unique.

CTB/McGraw -Hill

CTB/McGraw-Hill’s Acuity assessment solution is designed to support both interim and formative assessment programs with instructional resources, reporting, and customization. Judges liked the use of graphics and rubrics and its coverage of the Common Core standards. One judge cited the data integration and range of grade levels as standout features.


Achieve3000 offers a variety of differentiated instruction solutions from literacy to science for elementary school to adult learners. Judges said it was “perfect for differentiated instruction in any classroom,” thanks to its wide variety of topics, pre-developed questions, and activities. Another judge cited the new, interactive bonus lessons as particularly helpful for dependent reading comprehension.

Stoneware, Inc.

The LanSchool classroom management solution now offers classroom management over the cloud, distance teaching over the Internet, and expanded iOS capabilities, among other features. Judges called it a “quality product that would be very effective in a classroom with devices.” One judge mentioned that “teachers can see screens clearly, and can intervene quickly when students are off task,” even from their iPads.

Capstone Digital

myON reader personalizes reading for students by recommending books based on their interests and reading levels. One judge said “the potential is limitless,” and loved the access across all mobile devices. The judge added that the tool “could easily be adopted as a response to intervention,” or even as a way to help students gain “reading success, independence, and autonomy of choice and voice” as they search for the next book to read.

Net Support Inc.

Net Support School is a classroom training software solution that lets teachers instruct and monitor students, as well as interact with students individually or in a group. Judges raved over the mobile and Chromebook support in the latest upgrade. They found it to be a great classroom management solution overall, especially where 1:1 support is needed.


observe4success is a Web-based tool that helps administrators maintain effective instructional practice and classroom culture within the district through rubrics, reporting tools, and more. Judges noted that it was simple to access and create forms. One judge called it an “outstanding way” of collecting data to improve teacher effectiveness.

Learning A-Z

Part of the Learning A-Z family, the Reading A-Z solution features thousands of leveled readers, lesson plans, worksheets, and assessments to teach guided reading. Judges said it was easy to find material, and liked the built-in interactive tools, such as projectables that can be used with or without an interactive whiteboard. One judge raved over the “assortment of books and supporting materials,” and said it would be “perfect for the elementary school classroom.”


Schoology is an LMS and social network for K-12 schools and higher education that allows users to create, manage, and share academic content. Judges said it was “ideal for classroom use” in terms of communication and distributing materials. One judge added that it’s similar to Facebook and other online communities, providing for “almost seamless navigation.”


Designed specifically for schools, SchoolMessenger is a notification system that delivers personalized voice messages to students’ parents in a variety of formats. Judges said that it “meets the diverse communication needs” and added that it makes “ongoing communication” very accessible. One judge remarked that it was easy to navigate and quickly communicate to a wide audience.

Shmoop University, Inc.

Shmoop University offers a variety of online instructional resources designed to support students in a range of content areas, concepts, and standards. Particularly noteworthy, according to one judge, are the newly redesigned Mythology section, the essay lab, and the test prep and college practice exams. The judge appreciated the “volume and scope of practice exams” as useful resources to support students through the testing process.

Barracuda Networks

The Barracuda Message Archiver appliance centrally indexes and stores all sent and received emails for quick search and retrieval in a secure environment that offers role-based access for administrators and auditors. Judges found it extremely easy to set up and use, citing the support documents as very helpful. One judge said that it “helps ease email archiving, content filtering, and searching, which are essential for the business aspects of a school.”

TenMarks Education

TenMarks is a personalized online math program for K-12 students that offers instruction and practice resources. Judges pointed out that the update aligns TenMarks with the CCSS and noted the availability of “countless new questions for students.” One judge lauded the built-in “intelligent analysis of student mistakes” on assessments, stating that teachers would find it easy to access.

Stoneware, Inc.

webNetwork enables IT administrators to easily implement a “unified cloud” solution by delivering files, applications, and reports through a single user ID and password on any device. Judges said that the ability to have all applications in one system is a necessity, and they thought that webNetwork was an effective solution. One judge added that the ability for administrators to “easily create and maintain similar profiles” offers a way to “push out” critical tools for different groups of users.


Camtasia Studio enables teachers to create professional videos, record on-screen activity, customize and edit content, and share those videos across devices. Compared to similar products, one judge found it “more efficient, easier to use, and feature-filled.” Judges raved over the “powerful selection of tools and options,” and liked using the quizzes as a way to engage students.

Class Link

ClassLink’s Launchpad offers a personalized, cloud-based, virtual desktop solution that gives school staff and students access to their school network files from any device. Judges called it a great solution for schools using BYOD programs. They also found the management of documents and programs to be very user friendly.


Pearson’s WriteToLearn is an online literacy tool that assesses students’ writing skills and gives them targeted instruction and grammar feedback. Judges found the tool easy to navigate. Key features, according to one judge, are the guidance and timely feedback as students develop essays and summarize text.

Curriculum Associates

Built for the Common Core, Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction offers an adaptive diagnostic program that provides both teacher-led and individualized online instruction for a complete blended learning solution. One judge saw it as “an effective tool for supporting teachers in providing quality instruction” and said it could provide remediation for students who might not be successful in a traditional school setting. The judge noted that the “vast amount of reporting data is easily viewed and digested,” and appreciated the multiple support resources, such as student handouts and graphic organizers.


The CyberBully Hotline from SchoolReach is a comprehensive, anonymous, bullying reporting solution that gives schools a dedicated, local hotline number to route messages directly to school officials, in addition to online reporting and archiving messages. Judges appreciated that it is available for multiple grades and found it easy to use. One judge added that the reporting and analytic features are “great for districts.”

Discovery Education

Discovery Education Streaming Plus offers access to over 200,000 standards-aligned digital resources that support multiple learning styles. Judges believe that the game and rewards–based approaches will engage students. They appreciated the ability to monitor whether “students are learning or merely rushing through the challenges to earn rewards.”

DreamBox Learning Inc.

DreamBox Learning Math is an adaptive, online math enrichment program for grades K-5 and judges called it “very engaging for students.” One judge found the program “highly usable from a teacher’s standpoint,” and said that it was easy to identify how students are doing based on the data collected.

Espresso Education

Espresso Elementary, an online teaching and learning resource, helps students connect their classroom learning with real-world experience through video clips and interactive activities. Judges appreciated the “robust amount” of CCSS-aligned instructional media, calling it a “welcome resource to support differentiated instruction and remediation.” They found the site easy to navigate and said the “at-home access” was key for engaging parents.


With Maple 17 Academic, teachers can demonstrate and explore concepts using Clickable Math techniques. They also have access to hundreds of tools designed for teaching and learning math. It’s the “strongman of advanced visualization and mathematics tools,” according to one of our judges, who rated the new features as “timely, contemporary, and high-leverage.” The judge found it easy to use and called it an “indispensible tool” for teaching advanced math.

Kurzweil Educational Systems

This app lets students access and read digital files from the Kurzweil 3000-firefly Universal Library, which features over 2,000 classic literature documents and books. One judge said that her special education department purchases iPads just to use this app! Judges also found it useful for adaptive technology initiatives.


The Kaseya remote management software version 6.3 release offers improved performance, usability, and functionality for IT professionals. Judges said it would be very effective for network managers, while remaining transparent for end users. They found the video instructions easy to follow, and they appreciated the wide range of available features.

Lightspeed Systems

My Big Campus is a learning management system that offers a safe and engaging online environment for the classroom. Judges thought that its “features go deeper” than similar products, citing the collaboration tools and “Pinterest-like bundles” as helpful features. Additionally, the tabbing and sidebar functions received top marks.


The SchoolReach notification system lets school administrators send schedule change notices, weather advisories, lunch balance notifications, emergency alerts, and other important communications through voice, text, email, and social media. Judges rated it a “great product” that enables “intelligent tracking, leading to a reduction in false positives.” They particularly liked the parent app with its push technology “that just makes sense these days.”


The SnagIt screen capture and editing tool lets users capture, edit, and share anything on their screens. Judges loved the simplicity, stating that it “does what it sets out to do,” and adding that students and teachers alike will find it easy to use. For teachers in search of more advanced options, judges recommend the tutorials and live tech support.

BookheadEd Learning

StudySync is a cross-curriculum, Common Core solution for grades 2-12 that includes core texts, video, and media designed to improve reading, writing, listening, and critical thinking skills. Judges liked the ability to search for readings by CCSS, grade level, Lexile level, and content area. One judge found it extremely easy to use and praised its peer review function.


ePals is a social network that’s optimized for K-12 education and features a community of collaborative classrooms across different cultures and languages. Judges called it a “best in field product” and found the new and updated features very helpful for teachers. Judges agreed that the new ePals does a great job of turning a “complex mess” into a “doable solution” that’s easy to use.

Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation and Discovery Education

Discovery Education’s Together Counts program helps students learn the importance of leading an active, healthy lifestyle through the use of resources for the classroom, community, and home. Judges liked that resources for all three audiences are “brought together under one ‘roof’.” One judge saw the emphasis on community involvement as a unique feature.

Vernier Software & Technology

The Video Physics iOS app allows students to take a video of any object in motion and analyze the motion graphically to scale. One judge called it a “creative and sound way to apply and analyze real-world physics scenarios.” The judge said that the combination of visual tracking and graphs can meet a variety of learners’ needs.


TreeRing is an online resource that lets students create personalized yearbooks, filled with their photos and memories. Judges liked the “easy-to-use, point-and-click” interface. One judge added that TreeRing leverages students’ use of the Internet and social media in creating “what used to be only a print resource.”


The Gaggle iPad app offers teachers access to a learning platform designed for blended learning environments, and it provides a safe and controlled solution for student mobile devices. Judges loved the added features for classroom instruction and Web 3.0 tools. They also liked that the app continues to be updated with features as requested by educators.

Dell Software

The Dell KACE Management Appliance delivers a fully-integrated systems management solution that’s easy to use for network administrators of all levels. Judges called it “excellent” and “effective for schools” with small IT departments. One judge added that it would streamline many of the tasks that staff have had to do manually

Blackmagic Design

ATEM Television Studio is a live production switcher that combines a professional switcher with a broadcast-quality H.264 encoder, offering live multi-camera production and broadcast encoding for the Internet in one unit. Judges recommended it as a way to show live broadcast videos. They also noted that it was very easy to set up. One judge suggested that it would be a great way to record graduations.

Barracuda Networks

The Barracuda Web Filter gives administrators clear visibility into Web activity while blocking security threats. It also offers extensive policy tools for managing access in the workplace with no per-user fees. Judges raved over the high-quality tech support and found it simple to set up overall. One judge added that this product keeps educators’ needs in mind, citing features such as YouTube and Facebook integration as particularly useful.


Crestron’s DMPS-300-C-AEC is a complete, high-definition presentation control and signal routing solution for boardrooms and videoconference rooms that incorporates the control system, multimedia matrix switcher, mic mixer with AEC, audio DSP, and amplifier in one system. One judge loved that she could “send multiple video feeds to several projectors and TV screens in our large conference area.” The judge added that switching presenters is easy with the multitude of available inputs, and no “hassle of swapping inputs on projectors and TVs.”
