Living History Farm: Bank Failures

We tend to think that the big farming states in the Midwest were harmed most during the Great Depression by the drought that created the Dust Bowl. While that had a major impact on farmers and their economic health, the banking crisis that affected the rest of the country caused as many hardships in states like Nebraska. The bank runs and bank failures of the 1930s are described here, supported by personal interviews with people who experienced the Great Depression. After listening to the interviews about the bank failures, check out some of the other interview to get a real sense of life in small farming communities throughout the Midwest during the 1930s.
