Social stratification is a sociological concept that classifies groups based mainly on economic criteria, but also includes intangibles such as taste, language use, and attitude. In the United States that is manifested in the loose concept of upper, middle, and lower class. This site, an adjunct to a series broadcast on PBS in 2001, seeks to open a conversation about social class through interviews, stories, and games that you can play that test your own preconceptions about “class.” Several video clips give the essence of the the documentary.
