Among K–12 leaders:

* 85% claim IoT will make schools safer
* 81% believe IoT improves student engagement
* 65% report that IoT saves schools and districts significant money

Benefits to date:

* 55% say IoT has improved school safety and security
* 38% report improved energy efficiency
* 36% note increased student engagement
* 33% have observed improved teacher engagement

Top tools and applications:

* 48% use smart/connected security cameras
* 37% have smart HVAC systems and/or smart thermostats
* 31% have installed wireless door locks or room access systems
* 26% use student ID cards with radio frequency ID chips
* 25% create text-based emergency alerts triggered by IoT sensors
* 25% have connected school bus technology, including bus tracking

Remaining hurdles:

* 58% see cost as the biggest concern regarding IoT implementation
* 33% believe privacy issues are a barrier
* 30% report security issues as a concern
* 25% claim Internet reliability is still an issue
