Science NetLinks: Sky Watching

12/20/2013 12:00:00 PM
This great lesson plan from the American Association for the Advancement of Science leads students to observing the night sky with the naked eye, then with binoculars, and ultimately with the telescope. Along the way, they learn about Galileo and his use of the telescope in his observations of Jupiter and its moons. Included are instructions on how to make night-sky observations and links to pictures taken by the Hubble telescope. In addition, a link takes students to a site that shows pictures taken by amateur photographers through telescopes. What a great way to show kids that astronomy is not relegated just to the professional scientist.
