TECHNOLOGIES TO WATCH FOR IN 2017

Here are three major trends from the nonprofit CTO Forum that they predict will have significant impact on edtech:

Artificial Intelligence. AI is dramatically expanding the limits of what is possible today. As intelligent agents, bots, and autonomous vehicles are bringing huge changes in many areas of life and industry, so machine learning and AI will continue to enrich and expand experiences in teaching and learning.

Internet of Things. Analysts expect there will be 25 billion connected devices installed by 2020, and companies will invest nearly six trillion dollars on IoT solutions over the next five years. While IoT has tremendous potential for changing the way students learn and interact with the physical world, there is still a lot of work to be done—especially around security and infrastructure.

Blockchain. The technology underpinning the bitcoin digital currency has become one of the hottest topics across various industries. Blockchain has the potential to revolutionize the digital economy and is finding applications in a wide range of areas, including certification, badges, assessment, and PD.
