A great introduction to the Constitution through which students explore why a constitution is necessary in the efficient and fair running of the country. As each topic is explained, students are asked to express what they think is important. Learn about the Preamble of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, additional amendments, and the role states play in a federal government. A link to the Census Bureau gives facts about individual states and a brief lesson plan for teachers on how to use the facts. The iCivics site was founded by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to increase the understanding of civics in the classroom. This is a very accessible activity for late elementary and middle school students.
