Understanding Race: Race in the U.S.A.

1/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
In preparation for the observance of Martin Luther King Day, use this outstanding interactive timeline to explore race and the concept of race in the United States from its colonial beginnings until the present time from the standpoints of government, science, and society. The primary objective is to promote the understanding of the differences, but mostly the similarities among people.  Scroll through four hundred years of American history to read about slavery, the Indian wars, emancipation, Jim Crow, anti-Chinese laws, affirmative action, civil rights, twenty-first century immigration, and other topics and events pertinent to race in America. Useful extras include a glossary and teachers’ guides for high-school and middle-school.
