Critical Reading:  The Noun Phrase

4/9/2014 By:

Knowing parts of speech and how to manipulate them is important to any student writer.  Start with the simple noun and see how adding to it makes it stand out and become more precise.  Learn about using pre-modifiers, modifiers that come before the noun, by adding adjectives,  verbals, and possessive pronouns.  See how to expand the pre-modifier to make a very specific noun phrase.  There are also post-modifiers that come after the noun.  Knowing grammar is important because its proper use enhances meaning for the reader.
