Groundhog Day

This informative site from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is filled with background information and folklore about Punxatawny Phil and the origins of Groundhog Day. You’ll also find a chart showing what Phil’s “prognostications” have been since 1887. Another chart from 1988-2011 shows that Punxsutawney Phil really hasn’t been too accurate at predicting whether there would be a return to cold temperatures or not. Surprisingly, Phil isn’t the only groundhog upon whose shoulders the potential return of winter rests. Find links to the sites of other groundhogs who vie with Phil as the best prognosticator.
