This ARTSEDGE how-to makes a strong case for using both poetry and puppetry as a way to help ELL students become more comfortable with using the English language. Poetry is such a great way to play with words without being constrained by grammar or syntax. Playing with words takes some of the stress off getting things perfect, and it’s fun. Examples of lessons are offered as starting points. The second part of the site shows how puppets can inspire your students’ creativity and comfort level in speaking aloud in a performance setting.
