The Mystery of the Voters Who Don’t Vote
It seems that getting out the vote is becoming more difficult in each election. This lesson plan from the Council for Economic Education,
for grades 9-12, examines the question of why many Americans don’t vote. It ties the answer to some economic terms such as choice, cost/benefit analysis, and decision- making. This plan is set up as a mystery for students to solve. It includes internet resources, the process to follow in the lesson, possible conclusions, and an assessment activity. It’s not too early to instill the importance of voting as a function of a well-run democracy.
